Hymba Yumba Independent School (HYIS) is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander school of excellence situated in Springfield, on the tradional land of the Jagera, Yuggera and Ugarapul people in South East Queensland. Hymba meaning the development of skills in listening,  reflecting, evaluating and planning and Yumba is a place, a place to support learning, a place to build school and classroom routines and a place to build a community. These are words from the Bidjara language group and were gifted to the school by one of its founders, Uncle Albert Holt.

Established in 2010, HYIS has deeply committed to the traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander spirituality, identity and culture. In line with the (Mparntwe) Alice Springs Education Declaration (2019), the school is committed to excellence through:
