Senior School

Striving for success beyond schooling

The Junior School years of a jarjums life is a voyage of discovery during which they develop a love of learning and an appetite for education.  The Junior School jarjums are supported by 3 Indigenous Education workers who assist with classroom learning, intervention and extension.

During the Secondary schooling years from Year 7–12,  staff, parents and families work together with jarjums to set them up for success in the years that follow formalised schooling.

In Year 7-9 we are committed to ensuring jarjums maintain momentum in their learning through a highly engaging and relevant curriculum that provides both challenge and support.  Jarjums continue building on the curriculum they covered in the following subjects in the Junior School.

English
Mathematics
Science
Humanities and Social Sciences
Health
Physical Education
Visual Arts
Music
Drama
Dance
Languages (traditional)

In Year 10, jarjums commence their 3 year journey towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) accreditation all while maintaining a focus on developing their cultural knowledge.

In Year 11, jarjums have extensive subject choices as they start to make their selections for their pathways either to University, TAFE or the workforce.

Year 12 jarjums take further responsibility for their learning as we encourage them to challenge themselves in their studies and to purpose areas of interest to them. Hymba Yumba strives to ensure our jarjums are equipped with the tools they need to find their identity and place in the wider community so they can walk tall in both worlds.
